Satellite office exchange agreement with CSU Libraries to assist in indexing of wildlife CD-ROMS.  Also VENDOR/producer of several DATABASES.

NATIONAL TECHNICAL INFORMATION SERVICE (NTIS)
Central source for the public sale of U.S. government-sponsored research, development, and engineering reports, as well as foreign technical reports and other analyses prepared by national and local government agencies, their contractors, or grantees.
NATIONAL UNION CATALOG (NUC)
Printed cumulative main entry list representing LIBRARY OF CONGRESS printed cards and titles cataloged and reported by other American libraries. In our library, this tool is located by CALL NUMBER in the STACKS. Services such as OCLC and RLIN have replaced the NUC.

NETLIBRARY
A collection of ELECTRONIC BOOKS (EBOOKS). The Libraries purchases electronic books from netLibrary and creates a record in SAGE linking to the eBook. CSUL currently has approximately 10,500 eBooks. Search SAGE by the word "netlibrary" to display the set. You can preview eBooks for 15 minutes for quick reference, or check them out for a 24 hours time period.

NETSCAPE
A company that produces a free WEB BROWSER.  Netscape is often used generically to refer to the browsers themselves:  Netscape Navigator and Netscape Communicator.

NETWORK
Group of two or more libraries or similar institutions engaged in information exchange and having objectives common to all. Networks may or may not involve telecommunications links such as computer terminals. The information exchanged is often bibliographic in nature; cataloging data is an example.
NEW BOOKS

CSUL catalogs around 2,000 new items each month. A portion of new books that are received are put on display in the New Books Area on the First Floor of MORGAN LIBRARY.

UNION CATALOG listing periodicals and a record of the HOLDINGS in United States and Canadian libraries.
NEWSGROUPS
An on-line discussion group.
NEWSP
Abbreviation for "NEWSPAPER" used in the CALL NUMBER, also LOCATION CODE for PIECES shelved in the NEWSPAPER display area, JOURNAL ROOM, 2nd floor, west wing.
NEWSPAPER
Publication regularly printed on newsprint and distributed, usually daily or weekly, containing news, articles of opinions (as editorials), advertisements, features, and other items of current interest. Newspapers in MORGAN LIBRARY are shelved in the NEWSPAPER display area, JOURNAL ROOM, 2nd floor, west wing.

Earth Access to NISC is available through the CSU Libraries Databases.

NISO
NISO is the abbreviation for the National Information Standards Organization. It is a non-profit association that identifies, develops, maintains, and publishes technical standards to manage information. An example of a NISO standard is Z39.50, an information retrieval standard that defines the way two computers communicate and share information.
NON-CIRCULATING
Any library material which cannot be checked out. Such materials are stamped "non-circulating".
NON-GPO
Government document not published in the U.S. Government Printing Office, i.e. printed at field agency locations; Non-depository items.
NON-STUDENT HOURLY
Employees hired by the hour. They must punch a computerized time clock at the Loan Desk, cannot work over 40 hours per week, or more than six months during a 1-year period, and do not receive fringe benefits such as sick leave or vacation time.
NOT PUBLISHED
SERIAL issue was not published.
NOT RECEIVED
Used in CHECK-IN CARD to indicate non-receipt of a serial issue; issue has been claimed but is now unavailable.
NOTHING BUT NET
Nothing But Net is a newsletter to inform library staff about the Libraries' WEB activities. Content includes training opportunities, technical tips for WEB design, announcements of new or substantially revised library WEB pages, and reports on DIGITAL projects. Nothing But Net is sent electronically to all library staff every other month (6 times a year).
NOTICES
Forms produced by SAGE to be sent to PATRONS (e.g., recall notices, available notices, overdue notices).
NSDP
National Serials Data Program - A program of the LIBRARY OF CONGRESS, established in 1972, responsible for the assignment of ISSN and key titles to U.S. serials and control over the accuracy and uniqueness of these data elements.
