Membership is open to any staff member (present or retired).LIBRARIES FACULTY COUNCIL - (LFC) A deliberative and advisory group consisting of all Library faculty members which meets regularly to consider problems and innovations in the Libraries. Can be used as a search key to access records.LIBRARY OF CONGRESS CLASSIFICATION System of classification developed by the Federal Government for its publication. It has a notation of letters and figures that allows for expansion. CSU Libraries uses this classification system.LIBRARY TECHNICIAN I Position in the STATE CLASSIFIED personnel system characterized by the use of the full range of clerical skills and abilities combined with library work process and procedures. This class describes a fully-operational library technician.LIBRARY TECHNICIAN II Position in the STATE CLASSIFIED personnel system involving supervision of classified staff positions engaged in paraprofessional library activities. This class describes the second-level library technician.LIBRARY TECHNICIAN III Position in the STATE CLASSIFIED personnel system representing the highest level non-professional class in library activities. Library Technician III's usually serve as assistants to professional librarians and are responsible for planning, developing, and implementing procedures, methods, and systems to effect improvements in efficient operation.LIBRARY TECHNOLOGY SERVICES (LTS) The services unit in the Libraries reporting to the ASSISTANT DEAN for Administrative Services that is responsible for technology support of all computers and computer applications in the Libraries.LICENSE AGREEMENT Signed document between VENDOR/publisher and CSU defining use of product, usually online resources.LINUX (pronounced lee-nucks or lih-nucks) A free operating system, developed by Linus Torvalds, which runs on a number of hardware platforms including PCs and Macintoshes.LIMITED RETENTION Serial issues kept for a designated amount of time and then discarded; are not bound.LIMITED SERVICE REFERENCE SERVICES and circulation services are provided with minimal staffing, from 8:00 a.m-5:00 p.m., Monday-Friday, during Intersession schedule.LINEAR FEET Measurement of the size of library holdings. See also RESERVE DESK.LOAN PERIOD Length of time given before material charged out is due to be returned.LOCATION CODES Word or abbreviation beneath or beside the call number which is used on spines of books that are shelved in special places; examples are ARCHIVE, REF, VET, ATMOS. All location symbols are listed on the LIBRARY LOCATOR.LONG-TERM DISABILITY (LTD) Available to STATE CLASSIFIED employees on a voluntary basis and available to general faculty as part of their cafeteria benefit package. Benefits are payable for disabilities occurring due to accident or sickness either on or off the job. The amount of LTD is 60% of earnings.LOOSELEAF Type of SERIAL which is kept up-to-date by the insertion and removal of pages, kept in ring binders or post binders which facilitate removal and replacement of individual pages and/or sections.LOWER LEVEL Basement level of MORGAN LIBRARY.LSC Lory Student Center.
